Face to face and virtual therapy in Birmingham

Starting therapy can be daunting and may evoke a number of different emotions including worry and fear. Yet, it also offers hope of change and self-growth, of overcoming the obstacles you’re faced with that stop you from living a more fulfilled life.

About Me

Counsellor and Psychotherapist in Birmingham and Online

I am an experienced UKCP therapist and counsellor with several years of experience at generic counselling services as well as specialist services for survivors of sexual abuse and rape. I have supported individuals with a wide range of issues in particular trauma related to bereavement, abuse and relationship breakdown.

As a British, Kashmiri Muslim, I often navigate between different identities that either enable connections or challenge my sense of belonging in environments where conformity is expected. Consequently, I am strongly committed and passionate about all issues related to equality and human rights and incorporate these values in my therapeutic work so that individuality is recognised and celebrated rather than hidden and feared. This has been a core aspect of my work with survivors of abuse, to ensure they are seen, heard and made to feel like they matter.

It is by no means an easy process, but having gone through therapy myself, I recognise the importance of fostering greater awareness of self and others, and increasing the capacity for self-compassion and understanding about the resources we build to navigate the challenges in our lives.

Getting Started

As a counsellor, I will provide a warm, safe and collaborative environment so that together we can identify and explore patterns of behaviour that maybe impacting the development of healthy relationships and make space for better connections to be formed with self and others.

A Problem Shared...

I aspire to better equip you to navigate emotional challenges with sensitivity and empathetic curiosity. I will walk alongside you on your journey and together, we will try to make sense of how you have got to where you are and discover new ways that will lead you to where you’d like to be. I am open and realistic about the change clients are able to achieve and the commitment required to get there.

Crucially, during those moments of fear, doubt, self-criticism, shame and aloneness, I will offer kindness, compassion and emotional safety whilst developing resiliency and understanding of coping mechanisms. It is with these newfound skills where change is possible – those moments where clients start to feel that they have the agency to choose new ways of feeling, thinking and being

Working With Me

I am flexible in my approach using a variety of ways to support individuals such as mindfulness and psychotherapy for issues around anxiety and trauma, or longer term therapy for depression.

As an integrative practitioner, I may incorporate aspects of Relational Therapy to build a strong therapeutic foundation to help you understand past and present relationships, Psychodynamic Therapy so that you can understand and process deep-rooted feelings and elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy so that individuals can recognise and change thoughts, behaviours and feelings that cause discomfort and distress.
